Dear Churches,
Please–for the sake of our cause–STOP with the pithy sayings! I see so many boards like this while driving and I just get disgusted with our own piety. You will NEVER reach the lost if you berate them and treat them like a lower life-form. I know you don’t think you’re doing that, but you ARE!
Sometimes these sayings are “cutsy”, but at least half of the time, they mean NOTHING to people who are unchurched and don’t understand the Christian “lingo” and “jargon”. The other half of the time, they are downright insulting.
Instead, why not tell about upcoming events in your church or outreach events that might just bring someone in to find out what you’re all about? That kind of information is MUCH more useful and attractive to onlookers than the pithy, self-righteous, and confusing sayings you like so much. Really…you’re not funny…give it up!
Oh, by the way, CHECK YOUR SPELLING! I’ve seen many pithy sayings that actually had misspelled words…that’s just pitiful. I would NEVER even TRY a church that proudly displayed a typo on their road sign.
